Stonehenge-Inspired Necklace and Earrings from Amy DeLorenzo
Amy DeLorenzo grew up with a passion for archaeology, and took inspiration from Stonehenge to create this one-of-a-kind set for AIA. These exclusive pieces were created using Precious Metal Clay, a compound consisting of reclaimed metal particles and an organic binder that can be shaped and formed like any other type of clay. Once the material has been fired in a kiln, the binder burns away and the metal particles fuse together, leaving a solid, durable, and striking piece of jewelry.
The necklace is hand crafted using .925 Sterling Silver Precious Metal Clay to resemble a portion of the outer circle of Stonehenge. Sterling Silver chain is used to connect the stones where the horizontal stones no longer exist, as well as to complete the 16” necklace.
The earrings are created using .999 Fine Silver Precious Metal Clay. The 22k gold overlay is achieved using a paste form of Gold Precious Metal Clay that is applied after the first kiln firing and is much thicker than standard gold plating.
Beaded Necklace by Carolyn Roumeguere
After spending her childhood in Kenya with the Maasai, designer Carolyn Roumeguere traveled around the world. That safari of life allowed her to meet amazing artisans in India, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Mexico, Peru, and Kenya who work with local resources and create beautiful pieces that bring harmony to our lives.
The center piece of this striking necklace is a handcrafted sunflower medallion made of silver dipped in gold made by Jewish jewelers in Yemen. The inscribed red glass beads are from Sudan c. 1940. The red heart beads were made in Venice in the 1800s for trade along the East African coast. The bronze beads are hand made by the Ashanti people of Ghana. The clasp is Carolyn’s signature snake in 18 kt gold.
